Research suggests that a major demographic for homeowners who undertake DIY design and decorating projects is broadly defined as 25-65 year old females who have a college education, hold down a job outside the home and are highly sociable. While this seems a very broad age range, from my experience, I would agree that this at least focuses our attention on this large, diverse group.

It seems to me that this group is actually made up of a series of collections of people united by more specific lifestyle associations and similarities. To better understand your specific DIY design and decorating needs knowing which group you most closely associate with can help.

1. New Nesters. Typically made up of the younger members of the demographic, this group can be eager to try new things, can easily adopt trends and fashions for the home and do so with fewer encumbrances (debt, kids, and professional commitments). Home DIY Tips – Knowing When to Call the Contractors

There is no doubt that most of us would like to fix things up when they are not working the way we want them to in our homes. Sometimes we would try to figure out what has gone wrong when certain appliances such as a refrigerator or a heater have broken down. In the household, for example, if the faucet is leaking, we will try to fix it ourselves rather than calling someone else to do it.

But there are certain times when we really can’t do the fixing ourselves or sometimes we shouldn’t do it at all. For example, if the job involves potentially dangerous situation such as dealing with electricity, we may want to re-consider doing it on a DIY basis. DIY Outdoor Movie Night

As I sit at my desk and look at the window it’s already dark outside and it’s not even 5pm yet! While I love the Fall season the only damper is the lack of sunshine in the late afternoon. Of course it does have it’s perks as well. I find that I can get Hudson to bed earlier because it’s so dark out and he thinks it’s really late. Additional perk is getting to host an outdoor movie night and being able to start the movie at 5pm and have my little guests stay awake for all of the movie.

Yes, there is a chill in the air, but that’s what blankets are for. We also strike up our fire pit for additional warmth.

Interested in treating yourself to an outdoor movie night?

Here is some inspiration:

When we built our deck one of the best parts of our new outdoor space was our amazing outdoor furniture. I love having an actual sectional outside that all of my family can sit on.

For the movie night I simply moved over the sect

DIY Murphy Beds – Dare To Do Your Own DIY Murphy Bed

For starters, let’s talk a bit about William Lawrence Murphy, the man responsible for this modern space saving solution. Little did he know that Murphy beds would sweep the world with his innovating idea of saving space and yet having a great looking area when folded away. He was a lady’s man and wanted to impress them when he invited them into his home, but lived in a small home. So he invented the first wall bed that would hide and make his home feel neat and tidy to impress the girls.

Piston mechanisms are used to operate them by using two of them. The less common use air pressure to raise and support in order to lower the bed frame. It has the ability to lock when the bed is vertical up hidden in the wall. This lock is a safety feature, however a very accurate installation must be achieved. Old traditional Murphy bed systems use steel springs. Springs are the only mechanism that the Murphy beds should use because they are heavy duty and bring measured balance.
