Luxury condos, as opposed to the standard vacation rental, are the new way many people are choosing to spend their vacations. When you consider why you take vacations, it’s because you’re trying to get away from the busy world you inhabit day after day. You are also taking a bit of a vacation from your usual world, and this includes your own home. A luxury condo puts you in a world that has a little spice & adventure because it feels like it’s a world away.

This is vacationing in style, but this means that you are paying a little more money than usual, and the last thing you want to do during your vacation is lose money. Travel experts insist that the premier way vacationers lose money on luxury condo rentals is that they don’t take any time to think about the baggage (figurative not literal; also, if any) that comes with this type of rental agreement.

Here are five things to consider before you sign on the dotted line:

1. Rental Agreement – Look for any extra fees and details on rental pricing. Also, check to see if there are any issues with rules & restrictions that bind you financially. It wouldn’t hurt to have a third-party look over any paperwork in case you miss something.

2. Documentation – Go through and check your rental for issues both simple or serious. These need to be addressed ASAP. Being able to take a tour of the property should be an option. If not, you might need to make sure you have a back-up plan in case you have to walk away.

3. Ask About ‘Friendliness’ of Condo – If you know you’re bringing along your family, you want to know ahead of time if you’re allowed to move things around in your condo so as to avoid an accident. If there is some damage, don’t cover anything up.

4. Cleaning? – You’re on vacation, and the last thing you want to do is maintain domestic duties, especially when you’re in a luxury condo. If you know ahead of time if there is a need to maintain a super-clean environment per the lease agreement, this may actually cramp your style & be a reason why renting a particular condo may not be for you.

5. Know Your Rights – Renters can be left in the cold and feel as though they don’t have rights. The fact is that renters have rights as consumers, and while this may vary from state to state, so do some homework. The last thing you want to do is get ripped-off or be painted into a corner on your rental lease.

Because you are thinking about renting from any number of luxury condos, you might be making a bit more of an expense than you normally would. As such, maintain a record of any correspondence you have regarding any part of your rental transactions. Also, be a smart consumer & be weary of anything that seems too good to be true.
